Damn it, they won.

I am not a patriotic Australian. The last thing I want to see on the evening news is this: green and yellow people celebrating, red-faced and with beer. Most likely they will be chanting these slogans in any order; "Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!", "Oi! Oi! Oi!". I had to see this kind of display and shouting on Australia Day. It turns the stomach, making one feel sick. Now last night I watched the game between Australia and Japan. You may think I would put aside my feelings about red faces and things -and root for my...hmm well I suppose...my country. But no, Tammy and I wanted Japan to win, and we were quite delighted when Japan got the first goal. (Though Father insists it was a foul on Japan's part, he always goes for the underdog. I was surprised that he wanted Australia to win though. You may think I was torn between loyalty to my Father and dislike of the green and yellows. No! No! I tell you I was not torn at all! )

You also may think this is not a big deal, but really you have to see the kind of celebrations Australians revel in. It's just, very very yucky. (And I am satisfied with my use of that word.)
Well as the more informed of us know, Australia lost spectacularly, and Tammy and I were vindicated! Oh joy and Hurray!

If for some reason the outcome is disputed (by some of you smart alecks and nare-do-wells), the above victory paragraph will go as follows:

Well as the more informed of us know, Japan lost spectacularly, BUT Tammy and I continue to believe that Japan let Australia lose out of sheer pity and longsuffering.
